Renovations and Restoration

Regaining the lost National Register designation drives the renovation of the T.R.R. Cobb House to its original splendor. Bringing the house back to Athens is only the first step. Restoring the home to reflect its time while also accommodating modern needs is quite an undertaking. Authenticity is critical to the portrayal and interpretation of a different era.
Restoration of the T.R.R. Cobb house will include meticulous attention to detail and period-appropriate materials and furnishings. The restoration effort will use as many original salvaged materials as are available. Modern necessities such as handicap access, a catering kitchen and some office space will help the house serve several different purposes.
The Garden level will feature offices with public spaces and a small gift shop, while the Main Floor will function as a house museum. The Athens Clarke Heritage Foundation has secured many of T.R.R. Cobb's own furnishings and identified numerous other pieces around the community. Plans are also being developed for the top floor of the house.
